Doug Drake-Gulf Shores

Doug Drake
Born on the Louisiana Bayou and raised in East Texas, Doug Drake grew up singing around the piano with his mother and sisters. He wrote his first song at seven, picked up a guitar soon after, and never put it down. After years playing Dallas blues clubs—and with encouragement from close friend and guitar legend James Burton—Doug moved to Nashville to focus on songwriting.
There, he wrote alongside some of the best, including Don Rollins (It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere) and Jimmy Fortune (Elizabeth, I Believe). His song “The Ballad of Dave Robicheaux” was later recorded for the film In the Electric Mist starring Tommy Lee Jones.
Now based in Gulf Shores, Doug works with the Frank Brown Foundation supporting young songwriters and musicians in local schools. He continues to write, perform, and refine his craft while playing weekly shows along the Gulf Coast.
